The clashes at UCLA took place around a tent encampment built by pro-Palestinian protesters, who erected barricades and plywood for protection — while counter-protesters tried to pull them down. People threw chairs and at one point a group piled on a person who lay on the ground, kicking and beating them with sticks until others pulled them out of the scrum.

On Wednesday, UCLA canceled classes and urged people to avoid the area where the fighting broke out. The school's library won't reopen until Monday and Royce Hall, which authorities said was vandalized, is closed through Friday. The spokesperson also said the school's president "requested a detailed accounting from the campus about what transpired in the early morning hours today." She encouraged anyone in the campus community experiencing harassment or bullying to report it to the school, saying it would launch an inquiry and take action to protect students, faculty and staff "no matter their views." Columbia University's senate voted in favor of a resolution to create a task force to investigate the university leadership's handling of Pro-Palestinian protests on campus, according to documents obtained by CNN. Dueling groups of protesters clashed Wednesday at the University of California, Los Angeles, grappling in fistfights and shoving, kicking and using sticks to beat one another. Hours earlier, police burst into a building at Columbia University that pro-Palestinian protesters took over to break up a demonstration that had paralyzed the school while inspiring others. Encampments, unless they are part of an approved event, are prohibited by the university, the spokesperson said in an earlier statement. Around 40 of the approximately 100 people who set up a pro-Palestinian encampment at the Auraria Campus in Denver were arrested Friday, the campus said in a statement. Located in the heart of LoDo, Coors Field creates a baseball experience like no other.
The police department earlier Tuesday said officers wouldn't enter the grounds without the college administration's request or an imminent emergency. Now, law enforcement will be there through May 17, the end of the university's commencement events. Meanwhile, New York City officers entered Columbia's campus Tuesday night after the university requested help, according to a statement released by a spokesperson. A tent encampment on the school's grounds was cleared, along with Hamilton Hall where a stream of officers used a ladder to climb through a second-floor window.

"The established encampment is unlawful and violates university policy," the university wrote in a statement Wednesday evening. "Law enforcement is prepared to arrest individuals in accordance with applicable law. Non-UCLA persons are notified to leave the encampment and depart the campus immediately." After a couple of hours of scuffles between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli demonstrators at UCLA, police wearing helmets and face shields formed lines and slowly separated the groups, quelling the violence. At least 15 protesters suffered injuries, and the tepid response by authorities drew criticism from political leaders, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom, as well as Muslim students and advocacy groups. Police at Arizona State University arrested three people Friday “for trespassing in connection with setting up an unauthorized encampment, in violation of university policy,” a university spokesperson said in a statement to CNN. The company partnered with Magnetic Capital to bring back piano bar Howl at the Moon to 2100 Larimer St., with an expected fall opening. Police dismantled an encampment at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire just hours after pro-Palestinian demonstrators put up a handful of tents. Officers arrested multiple people, including at least one professor, according to local media reports. At the University of Wisconsin in Madison, police took down all but one tent at an encampment where officers with shields shoved protesters, resulting in a scrum and at least a dozen arrests.
Monfort redeveloped the former LoDo’s Bar & Grill property at 1946 Market St. into Whiskey Row, breaking ground in February 2021 and opening at the end of last year. “We’re excited to continue our partnership with Riot Hospitality Group to deliver yet another unique entertainment offering to Denver and its Ballpark neighborhood,” Monfort said in a statement. When it opens, the new Riot House will be a restaurant and bar that aims to bring the organization’s award-winning cuisine, high-end cocktails, and entertainment to patrons looking for an elevated experience. Riot House, located at 1920 Market St., will serve to augment the partners’ impact in the downtown Denver district. Riot Hospitality Group said a 300-square-foot LED wall will serve as a canvas for local and national DJs, showcase sporting events, and provide immersive visuals for the clubbing experience. Israel and its supporters have branded the university protests as antisemitic, while Israel's critics say it uses those allegations to silence opposition.
